Sanctuary of Saint Michael the Archangel (Monte Sant'Angelo)
Nearby
About twenty-five kilometres from San Giovanni Rotondo, the sanctuary of Saint Michael the Archangel in Monte Sant'Angelo guards the grotto where, according to tradition, the Archangel appeared. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it has welcomed pilgrims from all over Europe for fifteen centuries — Padre Pio himself was devoted to it.
Many groups combine the two destinations in a single day. The town also deserves a stop for its medieval quarter and the view over the Gulf of Manfredonia.
