Half a Day at the Sanctuary

The essence of the pilgrimage in about three hours: the two sanctuaries and the tomb of Saint Pio, at a gentle pace with no demanding climbs.

Schematic route: the lines connect the stops, they are not walking directions.

The Stops

1. Sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Grazie Start from the old church: early in the morning you will find silence.
2. Capuchin Friary: the Cell and the Crucifix If the queue is short, go in now: by midday the wait grows.
3. Church of Saint Pio of Pietrelcina (Renzo Piano) Cross the forecourt slowly: the arches seen from outside are half the experience.
4. Tomb of Saint Pio Save the most important stop for last: here time is not counted.
